Members of the Elhovo choir pose for the camera
Our village day
celebration this year drop on the St Georges Day weekend one of the most popular name days in Bulgaria family and friends
return home to be with their loved ones and enjoy the warm May evening ideal for eating, drinking, talking outside with a few glass of your pleasure.
So our village weekend started on the Friday evening with a
traditional choir from the town of Elhovo singing and dance display Shortly followed by villagers and visitor alike covering the village square with the traditional dance routine.
Movement and dance work well
This short display lasted about two hours before villagers headed
home for their evening meal and wine most likely washed down with few Rakias.

Saturday morning air was filled with the sound of gun shots as the
villagers competed for the prize money in the clay pigeon shooting, evening it was down to the village square for and evening of dance and song from a folklore singer from the city of Burgas. For
us the evening had not finished as the singer left the square it was a short walk to the hall under the library were food and drink was laid on for a small selection of guest with music by the
village band. Beer, Rakia and soft drinks were
flowing freely and soon ever-one was in the swing of the traditional dance. Traditional events like village days happen across Bulgaria all through the summer months and are great moments for the
documentary photographer like me to record this also gives me the time to play with photography like slow shutter and movement photography.
